Green Tortuga is our four-bedroom home, with 1,650 square feet inside and about 1,400 square feet of outdoor living space. The layout works well for families with children: a primary king suite with a private bath, a queen room with its own bath, a king guest room, and a room with two full beds that kids tend to claim immediately.
Outside is where it shines: a private heated saltwater pool, a hot tub under the stars, a screened lanai for bug-free evenings, and a full outdoor kitchen with a grill and refrigerator.
Green Tortuga is also pet-friendly with prior approval, which is genuinely rare on the island. If the family dog is part of the family vacation, this is your home.
Tortuga Sunset: space, comfort, and sunset views
Tortuga Sunset was built in 2021 and offers 2,350 square feet with cathedral ceilings and an open, bright layout. It has three king master suites, each with its own full ensuite bath, an unusual amount of privacy for a house that sleeps 10, and a real advantage when multiple couples are traveling together. One suite adds a double Murphy bed and another has twin bunk beds for the kids.
There is a private heated saltwater pool and spa, a screened porch with Gulf sunset views, and the beach is a two-minute walk away. The home also sits beside the island’s small airstrip, where watching the occasional small plane come and go turns out to be a favorite with children.

Plan food before you arrive
Grocery options on the island are limited, so most families either bring provisions on the ferry or arrange delivery in advance. Plan your first night’s dinner specifically, arrival day is not the day you want to figure out meals.
Good news on the dining front: the island’s restaurant scene just grew. Anchors Landing has recently opened on North Captiva, joining island favorites like Mainstay and Barnacles Bar. One less night of cooking, and a genuinely nice excuse for a sunset golf cart ride.
Pack for beach, pool, and comfort
Sun protection, reusable water bottles, any medications, water shoes for shelling, and a light layer for evenings. Both homes provide beach towels, beach chairs, and coolers, so leave those at home.
A simple five-day rhythm
